Scarface, one of the two dominant male estuarine crocodiles in the Daintree River, was discovered cautiously returning to his favourite creek last Wednesday to visit his girlfriend, Dusty.

He was booted out of there by long time rival, Fat Albert, last November and has not dared to venture back since....until now.   Scarface made the most of Fat Albert's absence by sneaking back on Thursday night as well. When Fat Albert returned on Friday morning, Scarface was seen cruising in the main river looking like the croc who ate the canary.

This is a great time of the year for spotting all kinds of endemic wildlife, and you don't need to be a tourist to enjoy the natural beauty of our surrounds. According to David, "The birdwatching this week has been some of the best we've experienced so far with the Sacred Kingfisher having returned from down south being one of the stars.  Many of the residents are active.  We've been lucky enough to see the Collared Kingfisher, the Azure Kingfisher, Little Kingfisher and the Forest Kingfisher plus the Papuan Frogmouth, the large billed Gerygone (nesting), Spangled Drongo and we heard the Double-eyed Fig parrot".  The list is endless at this time of the year with so many species returning from their summer vacations.
