Annual Mayor’s Charity Golf celebration

The regions’ golfers will have their day in the sun with the Mayor of the Cairns Regional Council, Val Schier, to raise money for the community, teeing off at the 18th annual Charity Golf Day on Friday at Half Moon Bay Golf Club in Yorkey’s Knob.

The ambrose competition shotgun start will be fired off at 11:30am with 36 teams of four players taking up the challenge for charity in the Cairns Regional Council sponsored event.

Mayor Val Schier said the friendly rivalry of the day would raise funds for the Smile Foundation that assists families whose children suffer from a rare disease.

“This is the sixth year that Continental Micronesia has been a major sponsor and one of the day’s highlights will be the raffle of two return air tickets to Guam,” Cr Schier said.

"Players will be fortified for the day at a BBQ brunch starting at 10:30am and will get a chance to size up each others’ teams as well.  Although I don’t play, I will enjoy the day by doing the rounds in a buggy, visiting and thanking all participating sponsors.”
