Washed out weekend for Muddies
After a week of over 250ml's of rain on the Port Douglas Sporting Ground it was very unlikely any cricket was going to be played by the C and B sides of the Court House Hotel Port Douglas Mudcrabs Cricket teams.
Despite the determined efforts of groundskeeper Keith Taylor early in the week when he insisted the wicket get covered on Tuesday instead of the normal Thursday evening, to reduce the water on the pitch as well as allow time to work on the pitch, was to no avail as the outfield was far too wet to get a roller or a mower on the ground.
However this Saturday and Sunday will see the second day of this last game of the season being played over a reduced 35 overs batting time for each team which should make an exciting 'big bash' for the spectators with the C Grade finishing their season on Saturday and the B Grade on Sunday against a second place Rovers Cricket Club. As always the afternoon games start at 1pm each day.
This will also be the final chance for Port Douglas players to feature in the Cairns Cricket Association awards for the 2009/2010 season, as Port Douglas have players in the top 1 or 2 averages of bowling, batting and fielding for this season which includes Dale Arnell, Matty Schiesser, Nathan King, Darryl Mison, Daniel Harris, Daniel Pokai and Keith Taylor to name but a few if the players that have some outstanding performance this season.
Go Muddies . . . .
