Two in a row for Muddies

By Roy Weavers

The Court House Hotel Port Douglas Mudcrabs B Grade team will travel down to Griffith's Park in Cairns on Saturday and Sunday for the first weekend of the 2009/2010 Season Grand Final to be played against United Cricket Club. The second weekend, if required, will be played on the 27 and 28 March.

It is quite fitting that the the two clubs play off again this year as last season when the Muddies had only one side in the C Grade competition it was United who ruined their unbeaten run to beat them by 17 runs in last season finals, so Skipper Josh McConnell and his men will be very keen to make amends.

"After lasts year revival to make the finals and only losing a couple of games during the whole season with one being the Final, the boys this year, that have moved up to the B Grade are ready to go even harder this time around and finish the job", Josh said. "It is going to be a hard fought game, as the winner has to get the other team out twice to win, and with four days play and 100 overs per innings available, I am sure there will be some very tired players come the end of the second weekend and hopefully we will be the ones still standing".

"To be playing in the Grand Final's two years in a row I think is a great achievement from all the players who have been committed at being professional and putting in 100% for the club, as it was not long ago that the Port Douglas team of old couldn't fill one team let alone two, but with the support from our major sponsor the Court House Hotel who helped with funding a regular grounds keeper to make the Port Douglas pitch one of the best in the league and the Mossman Butchering Company providing beautiful meat for those all important bonding BBQ's on a Thursday night after training, has just been fantastic for the club" McConnell said.

"Rattle N Hum, who became a sponsor this year have also provided extra incentive for the players by providing the Player of the Match awards each game. So a big thank you goes out to all those business, and we hope to bring the Flag and Title back to Port and celebrate big at The Courty"

United advanced to the final after beating Rovers on first innings points in the semis.

The Court House Hotel are set to host the seasons presentation evening for the Muddies on the 27 March, but as the Grand Final may still be in progress over that weekend the evening may be postponed. Final details will be announced on Newsport Monday.
