Muddies at Home for last games this season
By Roy Weavers
Both the C Grade and B Grade Port Douglas Court House Hotel Mudcrabs Cricket teams, subject to the weather, will be playing their last games of the season at their home ground on the Port Douglas Sports Complex tomorrow and Sunday.
Despite the best efforts of the Cairns Regional Council to 'bugger up' the playing surface with massive amounts of sand, which has forced the teams to play all their home games on other grounds since, the boys themselves led by groundsman Keithy Taylor combined with the formidable amount of rain that has fallen over the past 3 weeks to help wash in the sand, could well mean that both teams will be playing their last main seasons games at home this weekend.
If the sun stays out to help Keithy complete his pitch preparations then the C Grade will be playing on Saturday (6th) starting at 1pm and the B Grade will be starting also at 1pm but on Sunday (7th). With the washouts last weekend the games now revert into a Big Bash of 35 overs per side.
This, of course, is not the last home game of the season for the B Grade team this year. They have already won through to the semi finals and with it looking like finishing top of the table after the last round they will have a home ground advantage. This semi final of the 2 day competition is being played over the weekend of March Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th.
This is the second year in a row that our sides have reached the finals stages of the competition.
Skipper Josh McConnell said "This year there is going to be one difference, we're going to win the championship, failure is not an option".
If his formidable team plays to it's full ability, they will steam roll any side in this competition, "It's about getting our heads in the right place, but I know the boys want this more than anything after last years loss in the Grand Final and if the individual and team performances over the last couple of weeks are anything to go by, well the other teams better lookout" said McConnell.
Come on down to support the boys, refreshments and BBQ with the best meat supplied by Mossman Butchering Company will be available all day.
Go the Muddies.....
