Jetstar boosts social media spend

By Roy Weavers

Jetstar has announced that it will be increasing its social media budget for the next financial year, taking it to 40% of its total marketing budget.

Jetstar head of marketing and public relations, David May, said they had “tested the waters” of social media during 2009 with huge success, and with other traditional media becoming more expensive and fragmented, social media was the next obvious medium for marketing. It has been predicted by the online Travel Today service that Social media is expected to account for nearly 20% of all companies’ marketing spend in the next five years.

Editors comments: This is gigantic news for the traditional media.  If this prediction is correct, we will see an awful lot of traditional media struggling for survival.  We also think that are correct and our social media networking grows everyday as more and more people want to know about Port Douglas and its surrounding region.
