Frank Bennett 'schmooses' into town

By Roy Weavers

On 12th March at Tanks Arts Centre, Frank Bennett launches the Jazz Up North series for 2010. There is no such thing as a mere jazz standard in the musical world of Frank Bennett.

Calling forth the great jazz crooners of the past and melding their guile and presence with the melodic charms of popular music, Bennett’s otherworldly musical pastiche is one to be admired but never bettered.

Few in the maelstrom of contemporary jazz would be brave enough to tackle such genre-bending gems as Radiohead’s seminal ‘Creep’, Pearl Jam’s ‘Better Man’ or Red Hot Chili Pepper’s ‘Under The Bridge’, but Bennett not only re-interprets these popular classics with infinite grace but infuses them with his irrepressible charm and formidable sense of style.

Already popular with a diversity of audiences, Bennett is a four-time ARIA Award nominee with over 50,000 album sales notched in his belt.  A standout performer for all seasons, Frank Bennett’s one night only spectacular is set to be one of the season’s hottest tickets.
