Clean up Australia Day a hit in Port Douglas

By Roy Weavers

Sunday 7th March saw over 40 Port Douglas volunteers gather for Clean up Australia Day.  The volunteers split into 8 teams covering Four Mile Beach and the roadway from Port Douglas to Mowbray Bridge and collected over 50 large bags of refuse including an ancient “keep left” road sign.

All volunteers enjoyed a free Barbecue afterwards by the Treetops lagoon pool, courtesy of the local branch of the CBA and the Rotary Club.

The organisers, from Port Douglas Rotary Club and Blue Dive, were thrilled with the large turnout and have asked us to pass on their sincere thanks to all those who turned up and in particular the large contingents from the CBA,  Pandanus Caravan Park, Latitude 16, Treetops Resort and Bendigo Bank.

The plans are already in progress for next year when the organisers have told us they are confident the event  will be even bigger.

Editors Comments:  In the meantime take you rubbish home after you’ve been to the beach or in the car, no dumping.  If we hear of any incidents and we can name names…we will name and shame you.  In the meantime, well done to the Clean Up Day brigade from Sunday, your efforts are much appreciated.
