Big crowds support Highlander fundraiser

By Roy Weavers

It was a spectacular day on Saturday at the Julatten Highlander, who hosted the fundraiser for Autumn Cox and her family.

The live music kicked off at 11am and continued throughout the day until late with auctions and raffles sprinkled in between.  Organiser Grub from Grubs Trike Tours reported that approx 500 people came to support throughout the day and from their generosity the amazing total of $4,500 was raised by the end of the day.

The first prize in the raffle of a day out on the reef courtesy of Poseidon Outer Reef Cruises was won by Slim and Jenny from Julatten, second prize of a lunch and massage treatment at the Julatten Mountain Retreat was won by Alha Jennings from Mareeba and the third prize of a Sunset Cruise on the super catamaran Sailaway IV was won by Caroline Stevens again from Mareeba.

Star Lot auction item winner Kerri Rassmussen said she was thrilled by her mini Harley Davidson replica motorbike, “I’ve always wanted a Harley especially one as cute as this.  This will be great fun around the farm.”

Organiser Grub asked us to pass on his special thanks to all the businesses and supporters who donated prizes for the raffle and auctions.  He said “Without them there would have been no fundraiser, so thank you very much”.

Autumn Cox was overcome with people’s generosity and confirmed that the money will help tremendously with medical bills and travel.

The weather was fantastic on the day and the ‘musos’ lined up to play their part in the days entertainment.  It’s not until you see a gig like this that you realise just how much talent is around our region.  A fantastic performance from all who participated and all who attended…a really great day out.
