What's on in Port this weekend
With Carnivale 2010 a fading memory, and the onset of winter seeing temperatures plummet into the mid twenties, we look to our cosy local pubs to wrap us up in their warm embrace, and keep us safe, hydrated and entertained.
So what’s on at the Big 3 over the next couple of weeks?
The Courthouse
A plethora of live music from some local favourites is on the cards with Gusman, Dave Cook, Marcus, and Big Noise taking to the Courty stage every single night (not at the same time). Speaking of times, get there at 7ish for the evening sets, or if a Sunday session is more your style, 12 noon ‘til 3pm.
Upstairs on a Friday and Saturday night from 10.30pm you can get out your glow sticks (that’s not rhyming slang by the way), and dance like it’s 2099.
Club 130, the Courty’s new membership program, is now available so for some great rewards like extended happy hours, and member’s draws for cash and prizes, sign up now.
The Ironbar
The Ironbar continues to search the country for more great live music and now it draws on Melbourne’s vibrant music scene to secure the Pepper Grinders. With a fantastic female lead singer, the Pepper Grinders specialise in top 40 covers. Catch them at the Ironbar Wednesday to Sunday from 9pm.
The ever-popular Cane Toad Races are on every night from 8pm, and for locals as well as tourists it’s a sight to behold with some great prizes up for grabs.
The Central
They say variety is the spice of life and that’s true at the Central Hotel with movies, music, and sport on the agenda in the next two weeks.
Kick back and relax with a drink and watch movie classics on the big screen with ‘I am Sam’, ‘Is there anybody there?”, and my personal favourite “The Hangover” all appearing in the next fortnight.
For sports lovers, State of Origin action will be broadcast on Wednesday, 16 June, and if participating rather than watching is more your style, get down to the Central on a Monday night from 7pm and grab a seat at the Poker table.
It goes without saying that live music is an important part of the Port Douglas culture, and the Central has its fair share with a number of great acts playing for your listening pleasure.
