Douglas Junior netball Under 10s started with the Dolphins playing Mossman, congratulations to the Dolphins on their first win for the year, well done girls!!! Mossman had 8 attempts at goal but could not score for the game, Jasmine Kirk was in great form as usual showing great anticipation and leading for the ball, Charlotte Dowling put in a great game, for the Dolphins Bonnie Francis put in a fantastic effort leading her team and Hannah Durie put in her normal enthusiastic game and intercepted well. Final score Dolphins 1 def Mossman nil.
The Port Crocs played the T-Birds in what started as a Crocs dominated game, by 3/4 time the Crocs had scored 2 goals and the T-birds had not scored, Chloe Whyte was fantastic in attack and Savaanah Scott put in a great effort for 4 quarters. The T-Birds mustered all their strength with aggressive play by Isabella Cattanach in defence.
Lana Baxter had a great performance all over the court and was the key for Georgia Kelly's 2 goals fantastic last quarter with the game ending a draw. Goal shooters for the Crocs, Savaanah Scott and Chloe Whyte 1 each.
The Under 12 Crocs took on the Miallo Thunder, the Thunder girls played brilliant netball this week, their game flowed into the goal circle and despite a player being injured, with just 6 on court they rallied and played a great game. Player of the week went to Ellie Kadwell. The Crocs were down a few of players, but took the court and put in a great effort against the full Thunder team, with the help of under 10s players, Lauren Radcliffe played well. Final score Thunder 16 def the undermanned Crocs nil.
Mossman Primary played the Dragons, both sides were undermanned due to school camp and dance commitments, they begged and borrowed players from the under 10s teams and ended up with 2 full sides. Mossman put in a great game, thanks to Georgia Kelly, Holly Brown, Cartier Bennett and Jasmine Kirk for playing up from Under 10s. The Dragons were lucky enough to win on the day with the help of Isabella Catannach, Nicky Samson, Savaanah Scott and Sasha Lowenstein-Jones from the Under 10s, well played by both teams. Final score Dragons 3 def. Mossman 1.
Due to many absences this week the Mossman High team and mixtures played a scratch match and did not score, it was a great opportunity for some Under 12 players who have not played up before to try out against some older competition.
Douglas Junior Netball will now take a break for school holidays, those who train on Thursdays at the Mossman Indoor centre will start on the 15th July, the first game back at Port Douglas will be on the 20th July. Douglas Netball would like to wish all players and family a safe and happy holiday and look forward to a great competition next term.
