Tuesday night is Netball battle time

Tuesday nights senior games kicked off with well fought battles from all the teams. In a game with great defence from both sides and many turnovers, Young guns narrowly defeated Blood Orange 31-29 with best player Hayley Gwinne.

 

Black Panthers drew with Jets, in a game that was tough right from the start, best player Alfina Tolentini. Cougars won due to a forfeit from an undermanned Crocs side.

 

A fierce and fast game was displayed on court 2 at 7.30  resulting in Rattle N Hum defeating Sugarland Shooters 34 to 24 , best player Sarah Jackson who had a great game in attack. 

 

Julatten Jewels  defeated Quicksliver 36-28 with a great performance from Kelly Watts. Pink Panthers, with great team work from all resulted in a win against Breakers 30-18.

In the Junior Competition the Under 10 T-Birds played the Douglas Dolphins last Tuesday at Port Courts, the T-Birds came away winners on the day scoring 6 goals to 1.  Both teams played well and showed improvement.  Best players for the T-Birds were Lana Baxter and Allie Siebel for the Dolphins Kirra Singleton, Alysha Hughes and Felicity James. 

 

The Port Crocs played Mossman Primary in a close game the teams were 2 goals each and the first quarter with Mossman 1 up at half time but by the final siren Mossman came away victors shooting 5 goals to 4.  Mossman's Zoe Camberas always puts in an enthusiastic game and Krystal Secker defended strongly. The Crocs team played well together Chloe Whyte was excellent in attack and Savaanah Scott shot well for goal.  

 

The Under 12s Mossman Primary played Miallo Thunder in a lovely relaxed game.  The Miallo girls took the court a player down and a few changed around positions, thankyou Mossman for a great game. Miallo Thunder player of the match went to Jade Schuck for playing very well and Saisha Schonenberger was excellent in defence. 

 

Mossman's Shanice McLean put in a great game and Holly Brown intercepted well.  Final score Thunder 12 def Mossman nil. The Crocs played Mossman High in a tough game in which the score did not show the effort by both teams.

 

Mossman High with their age and height advantage dominated the game, Natalie Littler was handy throughout and Halle Tesch played well, for the Crocs Freya Garde coming back from an injured leg put in a great defending game and the talented Molly Delaney was excellent putting in for 4 quarters.

 

Final score Mossman High 29 def Crocs 2.  St. Augustines took on the Dragons, the Dragons started 1 player down in the first quarter due to a couple of late arrivals which allowed the Saints to dominate the 1st quarter, the second quarter saw the Dragons fight back to just 1 goal down.  Eleisha Mealing and Marley Cairns were best players for the Saints, Katie Gibson and Liana Pelligrinet were best for the Dragons.  Final score Dragons 10 def Saints 9.

 

The Under 12-16s competition tried a new format this week the Breakers stayed as 1 team and used the handicap system of 10, the Jets, Mossman High and The Gladiators were allocated their teams evenly between the age groups and played 3 x 8 minutes thirds. 

 

The Jets played The Gladiators in a tight game, Liana Pelligrinet and Georgia Duncan played their first games up in the older age groups and did well against some tough competition, Shanice McLean for the Jets shot well for goal under pressure and Karlie Brady was in great form.  Final score The Mixtures 7 def. Jets 5.   

 

Mossman High played the Breakers (10 point handicap), the Breakers started strongly but Mossman were not letting the game go easily, Meg Goodall put on great pressure in goal defence and Grace Walker was great in attack, for the Breakers Zara Ryan continued her fantastic form and Gabrielle Houghton ever consistent as keeper.  Final score Mossman High 2 def Breakers 1 (11).
