Seniors and reserves dominate the Cutters

by Pat Barnet

For the last time this year the boys made the epic trek to Fretwell park to take on the South Cairns Cutters. For years the clash of the two farthest teams in the league has been a hotly contested battle with the respective away team always feeling the need to justify the journey.

The reserve grade certainly wanted blood after their first round clash against South's they went down to them by 55 points with only 14 players on the field.

Without a doubt the team has grown so much since then and with 22 fit players they let the Cutters know they had it easy the first time round. With the inclusion of Ryan Worne and the eagerly awaited return of John Raffale, the boys were so fast in the midfield the forward line had a day out! The final score reflects their total domination on the day, 17.12. 114 to Souths 5.6. 36.

Port Douglas Reserves:
Goal Kickers: T. Hanly 3, L. Heffer 2, K. Andrews 2, B. Herbert 2, B. Willis 2, K. Nyko , S. Gibson , M. Mitchell , L. Jackson , J. Brown , K. Jamieson
Best Players: B. Herbert, R. Worn, J. Raffaele, H. Bogicevic, L. Marriott, T. Hanly

When 3pm hit the Seniors where chomping at the bit to get into action, with the big Darryl Taylor named for the first time this year after coming out of retirement our forward line was never going to be an issue with the smaller bodied blokes of Brad Cooper and Dan Smith cleaning up anything slightly off target and pretty much having a day out.

The ruck however was a different story, with Brennan Beal out with quite a serious knee injury and Lucas Teasdale unavailable it was left up to Tom Earderly and Joel Lawler to sort the duties out for the day. The boys Comfortably held South Cairns at bay to remain unbeaten over the season to date winning the day 29.18. 192 to the Cutters 5.8. 38.

Port Douglas Seniors:
Goal Kickers: B. Cooper 5, S. Boxall 5, M. Shaw 4, D. Smith 4, C. Shaw 3, D. Taylor 2, P. Minchington 2, D. Harris , C. Lewis , M. Doust , G. Delaney
Best Players: D. Smith, C. Shaw, G. Delaney, A. Macleod, B. McCartney

This week Port Douglas Crocs travel to Watsons Oval to take on North Cairns which will be an interesting battle as North Cairns have a new coaching regime has changed their game plan.
