Residents have say on the future of tourism

Tourism Queensland has opened the doors for residents of the Whitsunday’s to provide feedback on the effect of tourism on their day to day lives by completing an online survey.

"The aim of the 'Your Community' survey is to measure local views on the tourism industry and how it impacts on residents, so we can help keep the local industry sustainable," Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said.

Questions include how residents feel about tourism in their area, how much contact they have with tourists, how they feel about tourism development, the future direction of tourism in their area, whether tourism leads to increased prices in the area (good and services, property etc), and a range of other relevant issues.

With many similarities between Port Douglas and the Whitsundays, especially the large number of people employed in the tourism industry and the reliance on tourists to stimulate the economy, a survey of this kind could be very well received by Port Douglas residents......What do you think?
