Quicksilver has donated $1,310 to Paws and Claws, proceeds of Quicksilver’s 10th annual 500 card game.  64 enthusiastic players from the tourism industry got together for a day on Quicksilver VIII in April, happy in the knowledge that their donations would go a long way to helping their four legged friends back on terra firma.

Paws and Claws will soon call a new location home thanks to the generous support of Port Douglas company, WAKS Development, who donated land at Craiglie. “The new one acre property will be purpose built and the second stage of development will start in July.” Bianca Maguire from Paws and Claws said. “The building will start once the site work such as roads are completed.”

“We’ll be using the money from Quicksilver to help cover some vet bills, and also to buy some kennels at our new premises.” Bianca said.

Megan Bell, Quicksilver Group’s Media Manager said it was important that all locals get behind the organisation. “Paws and Claws is a wonderful community organisation caring for many homeless animals and we’re very pleased to be able to support the great work they do. “

30 stray dogs and cats currently call Paws and Claws home. Many of these have been surrendered in by their owners who either can’t look after them anymore, or have moved to residences where pets aren’t allowed.
