Hong Kong superstar visits TNQ

The Kylie Minogue of Asia, Award-winning Hong Kong actress and singer-songwriter Karen Mok, is visiting Tropical North Queensland this week.


With the help of Tourism Queensland, Tourism Tropical North Queensland and local operators, Karen will film a photo album and music video for her next album, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor announced.


Ms Mok, who is based in Hong Kong and is of Welsh, Chinese and Persian descent, has enjoyed phenomenal success in Asia since making her debut in 1993.

Internationally recognised, she has appeared in nearly 40 films and is an accomplished recording artist with 12 albums released to date.

Mr Lawlor said the film and photo shoots for Ms Mok would showcase Cairns and other nearby Tropical North Queensland destinations.

"Few places on earth can boast such unique and unforgettable natural attractions as Tropical North Queensland which is home to the dazzling Great Barrier Reef and superb World Heritage listed tropical rainforests," Mr Lawlor said.

Member for Barron River and Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Steve Wettenhall said the Tropical North is honoured Ms Mok has chosen the region to shoot her next photo album and music video in Queensland, potentially showcasing the region to millions of viewers worldwide.

"Some of the shoots are taking place at Lake Tinaroo, a Mareeba farm, Milla Milla Falls, Emerald Creek, Mossman Gorge, Cobbold Gorge, the Daintree Rainforest and a Coral Cay in the Great Barrier Reef, off the Cairns Coast.

"It's fantastic these locations will hopefully help to entice more Asians to make their next overseas holiday a trip to Tropical North Queensland."
