Help Variety help local kids

by Mat Churchill

Supporters of Variety, the children’s charity, are organising a fundraising dinner at the Highlander Tavern in Julatten tonight from 6.30pm.

Variety is the major sponsor of Goanna Park, a holiday camp for sick and disabled children about 90km from Darwin, that provides children with a week-long adventure experience that includes camping in tents, abseiling, motorbike riding, fish feeding, and a host of other confidence building activities.

Two children from the Douglas region have been selected to attend the camp.

“This is a huge life changing experience for kids who go to the camp and are away from their families, often for the first time.” Caroline McConaghy from Daintree Views Rainforest Retreat and organiser of the fundraising dinner said.
Variety pays for all expenses including flights, activities, and a carer for the week.

The Highlander Tavern event includes a three course meal and entertainment from Dennis Rose. For more information please contact Caroline on 4094 1207.
