Funding boosts artists

Emerging professional artists, art practitioners and cultural workers in the region will receive a financial boost for their creative projects with the presentation of this year's second round RADF grants.

The RADF is a joint partnership between Arts Queensland and Cairns Regional Council, offering financial assistance to the development of quality art and arts practice in the region.

Chair of the RADF Committee, Councillor Margaret Cochrane, who will present the grant awards, said that the recipients in this round were very talented community members.

"These grants are a way to support our region's creative industries and keep it alive and flourishing," Cr Cochrane said.

With the grants to be awarded, Council will be supporting projects including a by play written and directed by a Cairns playwright, events in this year's Tropical Writer's Festival, a Port Douglas art's festival and the marketing of a book on the history of the Daintree.

The Grant cheques were presented to the various organisations at a ceremony held at the Civic Reception Rooms in the Council offices on Spence St yesterday.

Approximately $80,000 was distributed to the applicants including the Go Troppo Arts Festival from Port Douglas who were awarded $7,113.00 under the cultural tourism category.
