Voting open in Port Douglas Magazine Awards

by Mat Churchill

The Port Douglas Magazine Awards 2010 are now open for voting, giving you the opportunity to throw your support behind your favourite businesses and attractions in Port Douglas and the Port Douglas hinterland.

The Awards, the brainchild of Port Douglas Magazine editor Roy Weavers, is designed to recognise service levels and products on offer in the area.

"The Port Douglas area is built on the service industry, so we want to recognise those businesses who are doing well and also encourage continuous improvement in the industry," Roy said. "In order to do that we need people to have their say by voting in the various categories. Its a who is the BEST of the BEST !"

Winners will be awarded in categories including Restaurants, Tourism Products,  Accommodation, and Retail, along with a number of sub-categories. There's also an Editor's Award for excellence, and a Hall of Fame inductee will be announced.

Doug Calvert of the Chamber of Commerce sees the merit in the Awards concept. "I think it's a positive thing. Hopefully it will make everyone sharper (in the service area) and avoid complacency."

The Port Douglas Magazine Awards 2010 winners will be announced in November and will each receive a trophy or framed certificate. In addition, winners in each category will be featured in every issue of the magazine throughout the following year.

Voting is easy. You can download the form here or complete a voting form which can be found all over town, and in the latest Port Douglas - Jewel of the Pacific Rim Magazine (Issue 3). Once completed, drop it into the tourismportdouglas.com office at 6 Grant Street, or post your entry to:
