Ports trolley tribulations

The Port Douglas streetscape has been under scrutiny of late with many businesses expressing concerns over the general cleanliness of the area.

In addition there is a lack of rubbish bins, and the poor condition of the landscaping in the streets is a concern to locals. (see Newsport article 'Port businesses have their say in Chamber survey).

Stray shopping trolley's are now adding to the problem with one local resident recently writing to the Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce saying she'd counted 13 abandoned trolley's on a single trip into town.

The concerned resident is calling on Coles Supermarket to help manage the situation by providing delivery services to holiday accommodation, increasing trolley collection, or by installing a containment system.

Taking a trolley home to avoid carrying your shopping might be convenient, and as enticing as it is to be pushed home in a trolley by a mate after a big night out, let's keep our streets clean and clear.

Editor Comments: There is a very easy solution to this problem; don't be a lazy bugger and take the trolley back!!
