Night diving for Quicky

Quicksilver has launched night diving to the area with the new trips operating from Cairns, The Night Dive is designed for small groups of adventure-seeking certified divers.

Quicksilver Group Managing Director, Tony Baker said, “The Night Dive will offer certified divers an extraordinary and highly personal diving experience while gaining an added dimension to the night life of the Great Barrier Reef.”

“Divers will participate in two fully guided night dives. The Night Dive will fill the market gap for certified divers (and observers) who would like to do a night dive, but are unable do a liveaboard trip due to time constraints or budget.”

“In the lead up to the launch, we conducted night dive trials with certified divers, including local tour agents, to ensure we have the schedule, the number of dives and timings, and even menus right. Safety of a night operation is high priority and being based at the Great Adventures’ platform, in addition to our highly qualified crew, will ensure optimal safety.”

Non-diving companions can also join in the excitement as a “topside” observer. While not being able to participate in dive activities, they can take in the sunset on the outer reef, view the diving activities from the underwater observatory and enjoy dinner on the reef.

The Night Dive will initially operate each Thursday, subject to weather conditions and be conducted from Great Adventures’ Norman Reef platform. The dive vessel Silverswift departs at 5.30pm to the Outer Reef and returns at 11.15pm.

Quicksilver's Megan Bell said there are no plans at this stage to commence night diving from Port Douglas.

The Night Dive experience will cost you $240 with all equipment and food provided, and local's rates are available. For enquiries or bookings contact Silverswift and Great Adventures on 4044 9944.
