Giant gorilla spruiks Xmas
Nothing says it's Christmas more than a giant Ugandan mountain gorilla holding a sign.
Anyone who's cruised down Owen Street in the last couple of weeks will know what I'm talking about.
It's the second annual Christmas in July, a team effort from a group of organisations in our own mountains of Julatten and Mt Molloy.
The event, to be held on Saturday 31 July from 5pm will be held at the Mt Molloy Community Hall, and hopes to raise funds for Mt Molloy's Fire Brigade and Primary School, and also the Julatten Community Service.
And it appears they don't do things by halves up there. For just $30 for an adult and $10 for children 5 to 14 years old, you'll be treated to a three course meal, jumping castle (please wait 30 minutes after eating…or is that swimming?), lucky door prizes, raffles and auctions, jackpot joker, live music, and a prezzie for kids under 15.
And if the thought of all that makes you want a drink, there'll be a cash bar to quench your thirst and free bus transfers will safely allow you that one too many (hey, it's Christmas!).
Bookings can be made through the Molloy Post Office, the Port Douglas Mobil Service Station or Port Douglas Automotive, or Goodies in Mossman.
Enquiries can be made by contacting Bruce Ferguson on 4099 6688 or via email on bafandtheduck@bigpond.com.
