Cairns to host Board for Urban Places today

Designs and ideas for the region’s urban future will be showcased today when the Queensland Board for Urban Places holds its general meeting in Cairns.

Queensland Government Architect, Mr Philip Follent, chairs the 23 member  Board for Urban Places - an expert body initiated to encourage high quality urban design and foster holistic approach to land use throughout the State.

It advises on infrastructure planning and the development of innovative strategies for coping with urban growth.

Mayor Val Schier said the meeting of the Board in Cairns will be an opportunity to exhibit plans for the region’s urban spaces to a group of experts who draw on a wealth of experience and can offer sound, principled guidance on handling urban growth.

The meeting will be at 12:30pm Thursday 15 July at the Cairns Regional Council's Civic Reception Rooms.
