Business focus - Port Douglas Cookies
Port Douglas is well known for its food. Over 60 restaurants and cafe's line the streets tempting passers by with a huge range of culinary delights.
But trust me, once you've sampled an American style cookie from Port's newest eatery, aptly named Port Douglas Cookies, you'll struggle to walk down Macrossan Street without ducking in for another oneā¦and another one.
Owners, Jo and Gary who hail from across the ditch in the north island of New Zealand, have lived in Port Douglas for seven years, previously running Nautilus Apartments.
But it was in New Zealand that Jo got her passion for food, and finally saw the opportunity to follow that passion here. "We just saw a need in Port Douglas for a cafe that provided great, fast service, where people could duck in and out quickly, or sit and relax if they wanted to." she said.
And according to Jo, the food on offer is a little out of the ordinary, "Our cookies are unique to Port Douglas, in fact to Australia. We've developed our own range of food including cup cakes (their neighbour is a pastry chef), and other sweet and savoury snacks."
Ginger and dark chocolate, choc cherry, and orange and chocolate cookies are just some of the exclusive recipes in which to indulge.
Situated on the corner of Macrossan and Owen Street (across the road from the Post Office), why not pop in and say hello, you'll be glad you did.
