Aquarius ready to set sail in Port

by Mat Churchill

Tropical Journey's new 62 foot luxury catamaran, Aquarius, has moored at the Marina and plans to commence tours to the Low Isles from today, according to Skipper, Drew Weyand.

Drew, who has been taking tourists to the Low Isles for 18 years, is clearly excited about the prospect of showing off the sparkling cat.

"The class of the vessel makes it unique. It's state of the art, and because we have low numbers on board, up to max 23 at a time, there's plenty of space for everyone." he said.

"We also have a very high crew to clients ratio with three or four staff on board."

Aquarius was built in Bordeaux, France, and was bought to Newcastle on a freighter where the mast was fixed before being sailed to Airlie Beach, and displayed at a boat show in Sanctuary Cove where it drew a lot of attention.

With a towering mainsail, five cabins, five bathrooms, and a spacious galley, there's little doubt Aquarius will attract plenty of attention from locals and tourists here too.

Doug Ryan from Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree said the addition of Aquarius is great for the area, "This is fantastic for our destination to have a new product such as this luxury vessel as it shows the continuing confidence for the Port Douglas region."

Apart from trips to the Low Isles, Aquarius will be available for sunset sailing and private charters.
