It's time to meet the second of our courageous Tri Port Challengers who will face their toughest test when the Challenge Cairns gets underway in June 2011.

The team is putting up their collective hands to represent us as the eyes of the world's triathlon fans focus on our seaside town, and the guys are looking for local sponsors who want international exposure, and to help them get over the line.

The Newsport: What's your occupation?

Alan Porteous: I'm the owner of A Tropical Nite Holiday Townhouses

TN: Why are you taking on this challenge?

AP: This is my mountain.  Someone has put this thing in front of me in my home town and challenged me to do it and I just can’t go past a good challenge! 

Remember, this event is only staged in several cities in the world and our home town is one of them so how could you pass it up?

TN: What's your biggest challenge that you've undertaken to date?

AP: Raising two daughters, Jade and Sara. So far so good!

TN: What's your favourite leg of the triathlon?

AP: The run. It’s my strongest and it’s also the last leg so I know when I am running that I am running to the finish line (and a beer or two).

TN: Why should Port Douglas locals should be excited about the event?

AP: The whole international triathlon sporting arena is coming to visit us in our home town!


TN: Who is the team mate you most admire and why?

AP: Nick Carling because he always gives me a target to chase!

TN: Any last words?

AP: This is going to hurt but it will be a good kinda hurt.
