Public meeting for lagoon today!

Last night the Cairns Regional Council hosted the first of a number of key group workshops in order to collect information with regard to the much anticipated Port Douglas Lagoon Pool.

Representatives from Council,  including Division 10 Councillor Julia Leu, Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce, the local business community, community groups, Lifesaving Queensland, and Council's landscaping representative attended.

Sam Cullen, managing director of Tourism Media group attended the meeting.

"Last night's agenda was a simple exercise in information gathering with regard to a number of aspects such as the key reasons for the pool, any possible negatives, as well as location discussions and ultimately potential revenue contributors to the ongoing maintenance costs for the pool."

"The representative from Lifesaving Queensland made many positive suggestions on how to improve the plan with regard to safety and other user facilities such as shade and water depth," Mr Cullen said.

These smaller group forums, as well as a number of open community workshops, will be held throughout the next three months in order to meet the March deadline for completion of the feasibility study.

Feasibility specialists Strategic Leisure Group from Cairns will undertake the study and will now conduct research which will include examining existing lagoon style pools around Queensland to ensure Port Douglas receives all the relevant information for implementation.

Community members are urged to attend a public meeting regarding the lagoon pool taking place today from 2pm to 4pm at the Port Douglas Community Hall.
