Grant helps cover Port Douglas cricket

The Port Douglas Cricket Club has been the recipient of a Commonwealth Bank grants as part of its 'Grants for Grassroots Cricket' program.

The $1,750 funding will consist of $1,000 cash, and $750 in equipment.

Vice president and C-Grade captain, Steve Doble said the grant was submitted by the club's junior's committee.

"The Commonwealth Bank will provide us with two marquees, drink bottles, and boundary markers, and we'll use the $1,000 to go towards purchasing new covers for the centre pitch."

And if this year's cyclone forecast is as active as predicted, the new covers may be money well spent.

Port Douglas is one of 200 cricket clubs around Australia to receive a $1,750 grant.
