Last games before Junior Netball Carnival

The Douglas Junior Netball competition played it's last games before their annual Junior Netball Carnival takes place this coming Sunday so it was a great chance for everyone to put in some extra practice to be ready and at their peak for Sundays challenge.

 

This weeks regular Tuesday competition started with the Dolphins playing Mossman
Primary, all the girls played well and once again both of these teams showed good
sportsmanship throughout the game. Special thanks to Kirra Singleton who volunteered to play for Mossman Primary to make up the numbers. Dolphins players Bonnie and Kyah Francis put in great, solid games and for Mossman Jaslyn Chesterfield and Krystal Secker stood out for their team. Final score Mossman 6 def. the Dolphins 1.

 

The Port Crocs played the T-Birds, the Crocs started off well with a 3 goal to 1 first quarter, Chloe Whyte intercepted well and Kalani Revel was excellent throughout the game. The T-Birds were not to be out done at 3/4 time they were 2 goals down, Lana Baxter lead strongly in attack and gained alot of possession of the ball and Cartier Bennett was able to keep the ball moving to goal enabling the team to shoot 4 goals in the last quarter to take the win 6 goals to 4.

 

The Under 12s, Dragons played the Saints who were missing their coach, thanks to Nadine Lowenstein for standing in, and goal attack Marley Cairns, in a low scoring game the Saints girls played great netball, Alysha Mealing was fantastic in defence and Mia Ferrero was always ready for the intercept. The Dragons who were frivolous on the court managed to come away with the win, Tayler Durie giggled her way through the match but still played well when it counted and Liana Pellegrinet stood out as player of the match. Final score Dragons 6 def. Saints 2.

 

Mossman Primary played Miallo Thunder in a great game of netball with Miallo taking the game 9-0. It was a great display of sportsmanship and all the girls played really well this week, thanks to Mossman for a great game. The Mossman girls worked together well and displayed great spirit. Miallo also played well and it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves. Well done!! Best players for Mossman Dakota Bowen and Brianna Foreham for Thunder Jade Schuck and Saisha Schonenberger. The Crocs played Mossman High - no results were handed in.

 

The Under 12-16s Red Team played the Blue Team, the Red Team put in a great
performance shooting 6 goals to 1 by half time, thanks to Dakota Bowen for standing in at the last minute and for Jess Eagle-Rowe playing attack when she normally is defence or goal keeper. The Blue team put in a great game with sisters Angela and Simone Pringle playing on the same side and putting in a great performance. Final score Red 9 def. Blue 4.

 

The Green Team played The Black Team in a hard contested match with a lot of play up and down the court not resulting in goals, Jess Steley and Natalie Littler put in great games for the Black Team and Emma Stievano and Rae Page were name best and fairest and players choice for the Green Team. Final score Black 11 def. Green 6.

 

As reported on Newsport earlier in the week, this Sunday the 8th August, sees the Douglas Junior Netball host their annual Carnival, 41 teams from as far as Innisfail and Atherton will be competing in ages group from 10/Under to 16/Under. 12-16/Under will need to arrive by 7.30am for a 8am start and the 10/Under will need to arrive by 8.50 for a 9.20 start.

 

There will be a full canteen serving breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks throughout the day. Raffle tickets will be on sale and drawn at presentation. This is our major fundraiser for the year, we appreciate all the support from the community in helping this day being a success.
