The Cairns Hockey Association presentation night was held last Saturday at Shangrila on the Marina in Cairns, and 13 year old Port Douglas player Jack Anderson was recognised for his efforts.

Jack was awarded the "Most Improved Player" in the Port Douglas Club over the last 12 months. In fact, 12 months ago Jack was still a soccer player and it wasn't until the end of October 2009 that he began playing hockey.

Jack's introduction to hockey was as part of the Summer 7's social competition conducted in Cairns. It was Jack's speed and knowledge of the 11 a-side game that quickly earned him a name for himself, and he showed he had skill with a hockey stick in his hands.
 

This year Jack joined the ranks of the Souths hockey team in Cairns playing in the Saturday morning junior competition. He was recognised as a player with enormous potential and chosen in the Under 13 representative Cairns team that played in Townsville and, later, in Rockhampton.
 

Jack has been a standout player amongst many seniors and juniors in this area. With the dedication to his new sport and his interest in honing his skills, we look forward to see where his career in hockey leads him.
