Courty Best Photo Comp goes Jungle

Douglas locals have been going snap happy and pulling out all stops to win the coveted prizes on offer for the Court House Hotel 'Best Photo' Comp.

Way back when we started the competition, we used to get just 1 or 2 entries a month but this month we have received a staggering 40 images.

Last month with 35 entries we decided to select a top 6 and have Newsport readers decide the final placings. Over 60 voters helped decide upon Jasmina's Vidic's spectacular 4 Mile Sunrise as the months winner.

Entrants are encouraged to send in their favourite snaps from any topic. We've had wonderful photos from categories you wouldn't even know you could take a photo of. Past examples have showcased a glass of beer on a beach at sunset, amazing backyard wildlife shots, family fun, sports action and amazing Great Barrier Reef photos, you name it, our readers enjoy it.

The images are a fantastic expression of our region and our people and they attract comments from all over the world. We've had comments from England, Holland and the US saying "hey stop having so much 'bloody' fun over there" (campaign must of worked).

With even more entrants this month we have decided that the readers vote is the best and fairest way to pick the winners.  So a voters poll will commence this coming Tuesday 3 August and run for 1 week to decide July's winner.

And there is even more exciting news!  From now on, Best Photo winners will not only receive the coveted carton of Corona sponsored by the Port Douglas Court House Hotel, but now every winner will get a FREE blast on the Daintree Station's (AME) 3.2m diametre Jungle Ball. What is Jungle Ball?

If you don't know what the Jungle Ball ride is, then just imagine rolling down a hill in a giant bubble at the full mercy of the forces of gravity. Now that will be a blast! Daintree Station is based at the site of the Australian Muster Experience in the Whyanbeel Valley and the Jungle Ball operations will be open to the public very shortly.

Very shortly we will also be inviting readers to take photos within selected monthly themes to add a little extra to the standard miscellaneous collection of images we enjoy so much with even more prizes to win.
