Biggest and best Junior Netball Carnival ever

Douglas Netball held it's annual Junior Carnival last Sunday the 8th of August.  The event was the biggest yet with 41 teams along with family and friends from as far as Innisfail and Atherton arriving at the Port Douglas Sports Complex from 8.00am for a 8.30 start. 

 

The day was a great success with games starting punctually and great sportsmanship displayed between the clubs. 

 

The 10/Under competition saw 12 teams in 2 divisions playing in a non scoring event and all players received a participation medal and certificate. 

 

The 12-16/Under event saw 29 teams playing for Winner and Runner up trophies, scoring was 3 points a win, 2 a draw and 1 a loss, in the case of a tie the team with the highest goal average were determined the winner. 

 

The 16/U had 8 teams competing with Cairns team Cyclones Orange coming away with the win in a count back from the Douglas Young Jewels. 

 

The  14/U division had 6 teams playing, the Douglas Jets finished on 13 points along with Bentley Park 1, the Jets won on the count back. 

 

The 12/U division had 15 teams playing which were divided into 2 divisions with older teams in division 1 and the younger teams in divison 2, in division 1 Sharks 7 won on 19 points and Radars 3 came runner up on a count back from Gordonvale 2. 

 

The 12/U Division 2 saw Aces Spirit win with 18 points and Sharks 8 Runner up on 14 points.

 

The organisers have asked to make sure we passed on their thanks to all the teams who attended the Carnival and especially to all who helped the day to be a fantastic success.

 

The Douglas Netball Association is celebrating it's 20th Anniversary with a reunion dinner being held at the Sugar Wharf this coming Saturday.  Tickets are available by either calling Kelly Smith on 0407 888 095 OR pop down to see Sharon Beechey at the Beaches Cafe on the Esplanade in Port Douglas.
