Crocs tame the Tigers in home win

The Port Douglas Crocs imposed their superiority against their first home opposition on Saturday at the opening home game of the season with a 113 point winning margin with the final score line, Port Douglas Crocs 27.18. 180 def North Cairns Tigers 10.7.67.

Their dominance was further illustrated by the fact that the goals came from the boot of eight players and from all directions. The eight goal kickers were Paul Minchington, 8, Matt Shaw, 7, Andrew Macleod, 3, Sam Boxall, 3, Brad Cooper, 2, Dan Smith, 2, Matt Manns, 1 and Craig Shaw, 1

Top scorer Paul Minchington won Best on ground after he was all over the ground all day and disposed of the ball accurately every time with either his left or right foot and kicking some beautiful long goals from the 50m line.   Dan Smith was another standout player with seemingly tireless legs after he started on the half-forward flank and changed onto the ball 10min into the first quarter, and then never stopped running.

Smith also add to the score line a couple of times with one magic goal close on half time. Matt Shaw and Sam Boxall played their positions beautifully in the forward line working well to make sure each had enough room to move around and used their height with great efficiency in the forward fifty turning almost all possessions into goals.

Luke Bloom was his usual destructive self through the centre and Steven Lyons was unstoppable at Centre Halfback. Lyons was a formidable wall whenever the Tigers tried to enter their forward fifty and on many occasions took a mark and cleared the ball before any Tigers players could push forward to help out their forward line.

After a heavy collision at the start of the third quarter, which saw the game stopped for 20 to 30mins while medical trainers and then Ambulance offices treated the injured Tigers player, Port Douglas Crocs took total control of the game and kicked away to a lead of 139 to 64 at the three quarter time break.

Overall it was a great day with an even bigger crowd than the traditionally huge support for the first home game of the season which also included a bevy of glamorous ladies enjoying the first ladies day of the season with plenty of bubbles spread around.

President Scottie 'Surebet' Ewert said "The turnout was fantastic, the support for the club is brilliant and if we keep performing like we have for the first two games, which is a great turn around from the start of last season when we lost the two opening games by over 100 points, then our supporters will really have something to cheer about.  See you at the Courty on Friday for the Goose Club."
