Food and wine for Carnivale goes 'crazy'

Latin fever is set to strike Port Douglas this May, with organisers of Food, Wine & A Taste of Port presenting a fabulous evening of Latin American food, music and dance entitled “La Vida Loca”.

“We’re serving up La Vida Loca (The Crazy Life) with lashings of passion, excitement and mouth- watering food,” says Beth Anderson of Events NQ, the producers of this award winning al fresco celebration. “Think Caribbean, Cuban, South American cuisine and the Rio-esque arrays of turquoise, pink, yellow, lime-green matched with Latin dance and cooking classes in the lead up to the night.”

The lyrics of Ricky Martin’s hit 'La Vida Loca' sum up the mood of this year’s theme:  "She'll make you take your clothes off and go dancing in the rain. She'll make you live her crazy life but she'll take away your pain like a bullet to your brain. Come On"!

This food and wine festival is the premier social and cuisine event of Port Douglas Carnivale, and takes place under the illuminated shadows of the famous Palm on the foreshore at Rex Smeal Park.

Restaurants already confirmed for this year are Sea Temple Resorts Aqua Restaurant Sakinah House from Rydges Sabaya, Soul ‘N’ Pepper and The Rainforest Habitat with another four in the wings.

Aqua’s head chef James Long says the theme of this year’s event has lots of scope for creative cuisine. “There’s Cajun, Creole - a whole wonderful mix of influences, spices and flavours that this theme can be interpreted from,” he said. All the restaurants are theming their foodstalls in various interpretations of La Vida Loca theme so expect some creative expression from very talented individuals.

This year’s entertainment line up will include high profile Latino feature acts sourced nationally and locally (to be announced), as well as Brazilian showgirls, Flamenco and Salsa dancers, and Capoiera dancers. (Capioera is the Brazilian form of martial arts). Food & Wine favourites Hip2Soul’s high energy will ignite the night and seal the passionate Latin flavour of this highly anticipated event.

Get in line for the Conga and let's go crazy!
