Fat Albert and Scarface now neighbours

Scarface, one of the mature male crocodiles on the Daintree River, has come back to his favourite winter banks although he was a little elusive during the latter part of last week. In fact, on one day last week we had both Fat Albert and Scarface not too far from each other.

This could mean trouble. Two mature male crocodiles don't make for good neighbours.  Our contributors David and Tyna White from Solar Whisper Daintree Cruises said that they did not see any interaction but Scarface has got a few new scars.

Just to add to the potential problems the long lost Scuter returned for 3 days after an absence of a few months and he is really bulking up as he approaches his teens. The two mature males who are already clashing with each other over territory dominance won't stand for a juvenile moving in to the area. Some lucky future cruisers will be witness to these crocs sorting out their hierarchy over a not so friendly trial of strength.

In the rainforest this week, the birds have been amazing with great sightings of the top two most difficult birds, The Great Billed Heron and the Little Kingfisher. Also some Rainbow Bee Eaters and a pair of Jabirus were seen. More sightings of more species will be made as the weather cools. We look forward to our friends on the Daintree giving us all the latest news.
