The Clink to host classical guitarist greats

The Melbourne-based guitar virtuosos, Slava and Leonard Grigoryan, return to The Clink Theatre on September 25 to kick off their Far North tour.

Highlights of the concert will feature the best of their latest CD "Distance" which mixes a number of exciting genres with their technical brilliance. They are arguably the best classical guitarists in the Southern Hemisphere.

Their family emigrated to Melbourne in 1981. Older brother Slava began to study guitar with his father at the age of seven. By the age of twelve he was already performing professionally and he made his solo debut in Sydney at fourteen. He attended St Michael's Grammar School during which time he studied with Ron Payne, and the Victorian College of the Arts.  Following his win at the Tokyo International Classical Guitar Competition, Slava was signed by Sony Music Entertainment in 1995 for whom he released four solo albums. He went on to tour extensively in Europe, North America and Asia, making his New York debut in 1997.

He changed labels to ABC Classics Australia in 2001 and has continued to record and tour very successfully with his younger brother Leonard.

This new Grigoryan Brothers release 'Distance' marks a departure from standard classical guitar repertoire, capturing all the spontaneity of their live performances. This, their fourth duo CD is infused with energy, showcasing a variety of genres, and as always, their technical prowess.

This is music that beguiles the listener, evoking a response that is anything but distant.

The Grigoryan Brothers begin their 'Distance' Far North Tour at The Clink Theatre, Port Douglas, on September 25 at 7.30pm.
