Graham Jones and Bluewater take Runners Up in Hamilton Island Race
Graham Jones, owner operator of the Tropical Journeys Organisation who run reef and rainforest tours out of Port Douglas including the long established Calypso snorkel and dive cruise, took Runners Up honours in the IRC Passage Div 1 Class of the prestigious 2009 Hamilton Island Race held from 22nd to 29th August last week.
This IRC Passage class is intended for modern fast cruising yachts and Graham and his crew in their yacht Bluewater pushed the eventual winners 'Balance' skippered by Brian Clitheroe all the way to the final day. In fact Graham and his crew succeeded in getting Bluewater across the line in first place on 3 occasions in the 6 race tournament with Clitheroe only getting Balance a first place in one of their races but Bluewater lost out by just one point overall in the final tally.
Graham has always had an interest in boating and has competed in 19 Sydney to Hobart Yacht races as well as representing Australia in Admiral Cup racing, 12 metre yachting, Etchells, Solings, he has competed in the China Sea Races and won the Quarter Ton Worlds.
This latest race achievement is a fantastic achievement by Graham and his crew proudly sported Port Douglas banners all over the yacht to proclaim their origin !
