Four Mile Beach gets rep as best kitesurfing location in Australia
If extreme sports are your thing, then Four Mile Beach is the perfect stepping stone for great down-winders and offshore kiting adventures to Low Isles, the Outer Reef and surrounding islands and cays of the Great Barrier Reef off the Port Douglas coast.
Port Douglas offers an ideal tropical climate (mid 20s during the day) in the Australian winter when the south easterly trade winds are at their best during May and October. Port Douglas is also the gateway to some of the best diving, snorkeling and fishing locations in Australia, so if the wind drops there's still plenty to keep your adrenalin levels pumped and your BBQ well supplied.
There is no better place to learn to Kitesurf than on the beautiful Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas. In fact Four Mile Beach is regarded as the best kitesurfing location in Australia during the winter months, for both beginners and advanced riders.
Brett Wright owner/operator of WindSwell Kitesurfing has experienced IKO instructors to accommodate all levels of riders in private or group lessons. All instructors are qualified in first aid and there is a safety boat and first aid kit on standby. All lessons are safe, progressive, fun and good value for money. Brett is passionate about his organisation and says "Our aim is to make our students competent, independent kitesurfers, certifying all our students with the IKO Kiteboarder Card".
Using the latest kite surfing gear, all students are equipped with flotation vests, wetsuits, and helmets. New this year is the Instructor/Student helmet-cam radio communications to aid in faster learning. Board skill sessions are offered behind our kitesurfing support boat 'NoSwell' , which is also used for wakeboarding on no wind days.
Brett says "We also offer downwind and Outer Reef and Island kitesurfing expeditions and we operate 7 days a week during the trade wind season (May - Oct), on call during the quite season".
Brett also proudly reports that his brother Kyle Wright has now been signed up to ride for JN Kites and is amping to travel to some events in the near future. The attached photos show Kyle and his team competing off Lizard island at their August Windswell Tour.
