Cooktown Police are seeking assistance form the public to help locate items stolen from a Veterinary surgery in Cooktown overnight.

It is believed unknown thieves broke into the Charlotte Street vet at about 8.30pm on Monday by removing louvers from a window and tearing through the fly screen.

A camera was stolen from the premises as well as a safe containing various veterinary pharmaceutical drugs.

Plainclothes Senior Constable at Cooktown CIB, Brendon Potter, said it’s likely the thieves didn’t even know what was in the safe when it was taken.

He said the drugs could be harmful in the wrong hands and urged people to come forward if they come across the stolen pharmaceuticals.

“They are not designed for human consumption and could be potentially illegal,” he said.

Cooktown CIB is investigating the incident and are seeking assistance from the local and wider community.
