FLOODED: Flooding at the Daintree River.

The Daintree Ferry has been CLOSED due to flooding in the Daintree River.

Water has reportedly reached up to Forest Creek Rd on the northern side and the ferry is inaccessible.

The ferry operators have secured the vessel, are monitoring the situation and will advise when operations can start again.

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning that LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL AND FLOODING will become an increased risk with six-hourly rainfall totals in excess of 250mm possible.

People living along the Daintree River and its tributaries, the Mossman River and other waterways in the Shire need to be prepared if water levels continue to rise up to major flood levels.

Heavy rain is expected throughout Douglas Shire overnight and water levels may rise rapidly if intense rainfall occurs.
