Port Douglas has sent a whole lot of love around the country with the 5000th Port Douglas magazine containing the ‘Stories of Romance’ campaign shipped out yesterday.

The campaign, first launched in August last year, focuses on promoting Port Douglas as a must-do wedding destination by highlighting the natural romance of the region.

The campaign is designed to target the destination wedding market and will showcase Port Douglas nationally at wedding expos, airport lounges, and travel agents.

Major partner of the campaign, Rhys Bawden of Salsa Bar and Grill, said it’s great to be involved with other businesses all working together for the benefit of the town.

“As businesses in the town, we realised doing this individually wasn’t helping and we wanted to promote Port Douglas as a destination rather than promoting ourselves as businesses,” he said.

“The emphasis of the campaign is about Port Douglas as a great location to come get married or engaged here then, all businesses will get the flow on effects.”

Mr Bawden said the campaign is all about igniting a spark of romance for visitors to the town.

“Often Port Douglas is where people had their first holiday or where they were proposed to and it’s about capturing that magic,” he said.

“We want to bring people back and reignite those thoughts; I think it’s a romantic little place.”

Dean Bland, of Port Douglas Catering and Events, said it’s great to collaborate with other businesses to showcase the town.

“It’s good to know you are part of anything to do with weddings up here,” he said.

“It’s a big thing to be a part of the Port Douglas Magazine and part of the expos all over the country, it’s really good and we enjoy it.”

The campaign also incorporates a Lock your love ‘Heart of Port Douglas’ sculpture commissioned and erected by RAM Metalworks at the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina.

The heart has already attracted plenty of Instagram posts and many have added their love locks to the sculpture.
