Two girls critical after horror smash

Police are still searching for the male driver of a horror smash in Cairns this morning. Two teenage girls remain in a critical condition.

A vehicle that rolled in a Cairns suburb this morning was allegedly stolen.

Two teenage girls have been rushed to the Cairns Hospital in a critical condition after a four-wheel drive flipped at the intersection of Windarra Street and Shannon Drive in Woree.

Officers from the Cairns Forensic Crash Unit are at the scene, with
Preliminary investigations revealing the station wagon contained ‘a number of youths’ before it lost control and overturned at around 6.10am.

Police are still searching for the male driver of the vehicle who left the scene before emergency service arrived.

A number of the occupants sustained serious injuries and were treated at the scene, being transported for emergency treatment.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from an address at Smithfield earlier this morning.
