McKellar takes Full bore honours

Saturday saw eight shooters turn out for a near perfect 700 Meter double range, with only five opting to participate.

Malcolm McKellar took the honors in the Full bore (peep sights, manual rest) 308 comp, with a double range score of 102/9 from a possible 105. In second place was Neil Attwood with a score of 95/8, followed by Ben Purvis in third on 67/1.

Norbert Schmidt was the only competitor in the F-class (scoped, mechanically supported) 308 comp with a score of 114/2. Russel Duncan shot a ten shot match using a 300 Weatherby magnum to gain a first range score of 38 before retiring.

Norbert Schmidt was the first shooter on the mound to set up his kit. Norbert fired off 10 quick shots to gain a first range score of 55/2 from a possible 60.

Ben Purvis was next to be set up behind his trusty 308. Ben was having trouble with his windage and elevation sights and  finished with a low score of 19 after shooting eight birds and a three.

Neil Attwood was the next Full bore competitor on the mat. Neil  shot a really mixed bag of shots to gain a first range tally of 40/1 from a possible 50.

Malcolm McKellar was the next man down on the mat. Mal shot exceptionally well considering he has not shot for over three months. His first range score was 49/3from a possible 50.

Russel Duncan was the last  man on the mat to shoulder his Weatherby 300 belted magnum. Russel was pleasantly surprised how the 300 performed pushing a 180 grain projectile so  far.

Norbert was back again and fired 5 good shots  and six not so good shots to post a final score of 59 from a possible 66

Ben Purvis was back to try and better his first score. Ben shot much better to post a second range score of 48/1 from a possible 55.

Neil Attwood was on the mat again. Neil Shot an exceptional 11 shot match to achieve a possible score (a perfect score)  of 55/7.

Malcolm McKellar was the last man down to shoot his 2 nd 700 meter range. Mal opened with 5's and went on to shoot a swag of V bulls, dropping two points to give him a final  tally of 53/6.

A big thankyou to our marker, Jed Kemp, and to our scorer and citizen of the year, Ron Schild. Our club meets every Saturday at the range half way between Port and Mossman on the Cook Highway, all welcome.
