Challenging first range for shooters

Saturday saw four keen shooters turn out for a near perfect day at the Mossman and District Rifle Club, with only three setting up their rifles to shoot from the 600 metre mound.

Everyone had trouble with the first range due to a mild mirage and a constant breeze coming up the range. Malcolm McKellar took honors in the Full Bore comp with a double range score of 97 /4 from a possible 105, with Neil Attwood following at a distance on 90/3. Norbert Schmidt was the only competitor in the F class match, posting a final score of 112/4 from a possible 126.

Norbert Schmidt was quick to set up on the 600 metre mound and also quick to squeeze off ten varying shots to gain a first range score of 51/1 from a possible 60.

Neil Attwood was the next man down to shoulder his 308 in the Full Bore comp. Neil shot all over the target to gain a first round score of 42 /1 from a possible 50 in the ten shot match.

Mal McKellar was the last man to put his jacket on and set up his kit in the 308 Full Bore comp. Mal  opened with bullseyes and went on to finish with a respectable score of  48/2 from a possible 50.

On the second range, the breeze abated and cloud cover appeared, which gave the shooters a better sight on the target.

Norbert Schmidt was again squeezing off shots in quick succession to gain a second range score of 61/3 from a possible 66 in the 11 shot match.

Neil Attwood was back again to improve his score by one point . Neil opened with low shots and went on to shoot a few V bulls and one super V bull to gain a second range score of 48/2 from a possible 55.

Malcolm McKellar was again down behind his trusty 308 to better his first score, which he failed to achieve with a second range score of 49/2 from a possible 55.
All the shooters, tongue-in-cheek, blamed the marker for giving them low scores. A big thank you to the range marker, Ron Schild for doing a fine job.

There will be no weekly meeting this Saturday due to a Prize Shoot at Mareeba on Sunday, February 23, starting at 8.00am. The range is off Chewko Road on Roiko Road.

Target shooting will be as usual on the following Saturday at 1.00 pm at the range on the Cook Highway between Port and Mossman.
