Two FNQ courses hit top 100

Popular Australian golfing magazine, Australian Golf Digest, has once again named Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club and Sea Temple Port Douglas in its Top 100 courses.

Paradise Palms’ director of Golf, Des Shearer was delighted with the result that sees Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club climb 10 spots to 66.

“We are the only course with a double figure jump that was listed previously in the Top 100,” he said.

According to Mr Shearer, Paradise Palms’ jump in its ranking follows a substantial investment in new machinery as well as a new irrigation system and all the fertilisers and herbicides required to better manicure the golf course.

“Our hard work appears to be paying off. Saying that, we are expecting a further jump in the next two years as these developments continue to be reflected in the quality of the course.

"Our plans to stage further standalone tournaments throughout the year, as well PGA events, the first of which is in June 2012, will also assist the ranking,” he said.

Sea Temple Port Douglas returned to the Top 100 at number 94.

“Having another course in the Top 100 makes selling Far North Queensland as a top golf destination, a far easier task,” Mr Shearer said.

Royal Melbourne West reclaims top spot, while New South Wales, and Kingston Heath round out the top three.
