Region celebrates International Women's Day

The contribution of women will be recognised over breakfast, as Cairns Regional Council hosts its annual International Women’s Day program of events.

Tickets are still available for the IWD breakfast, to be held at the Sebel Cairns on Saturday, March 3.

“We invite women of all ages and backgrounds to join together to celebrate the role of women in our community and the changes that many of us have seen in our own lifetimes,” Mayor Val Schier said.

“The breakfast will include guest speaker Dame Carol Kidu, an Australian-born politician who is Papua New Guinea’s only female Member of Parliament.”

A full program of events is planned for the following week, including Women’s Health and Wellbeing sessions, art exhibitions and activities, self-defence workshop and a “Pampering Our Young Women” evening at Mossman Youth Centre.

“There is also a ‘Women on Wheels’ workshop to learn basic car maintenance skills and women’s history displays at the Cairns City and Mossman Libraries,” Cr Schier said.

A full program of events is available through the What’s On calendar at Council’s website www.cairns.qld.gov.au

Many of the activities require prior registration, as numbers are limited. Tickets for the breakfast are $35 and available through TicketLink.
