Champs blitz podium at Atherton

After putting on a top show at their end of year display recently, the Mossman & District competition gymnasts still had energy to burn at the Atherton End of Year Invitational competition.

With little time to recover from the previous night’s festivities, our top local gymnasts managed to blitz the podium, bringing home a smorgasbord of trophies, medals and certificates.

From WAG Level 2 Unders, Tali Hoye, Della Miller and Jorja Harvey rose to the highest standards, winning all three trophies for overall first, second and third placings respectively.

Tali’s first place achievement was secured by her coming in first on Bars and Floor out of 22 competitors. Della impressed with second placings on both Vault and Floor and Jorja achieved consistent results on all apparatus, excelling on Beam with third place.

From WAG Level 2 Open, Kahli Frizelle exceeded expectations by winning the trophy for second overall out of six competitors. She was a stand out on Vault and Floor, coming first in both disciplines.

Level 2 coach, Deanne Hoye, was thrilled with the results. After a year of hard work it was a great way to finish up.

From WAG Level 3 Unders, Shayla Frizelle fought hard to secure a fourth overall placing out of 13 competitors. A few unlucky mishaps saw her loosing points but she still excelled on Vault and Floor placing fourth and third respectively.

From WAG Level 3 Open, Paulina Bernhardi was the star, placing third overall out of 15 competitors. Placing second on Beam and third on Bars ensured she rose to the top rankings for a trophy.

Taylor O’Connor was pleasantly surprised with her score on Bars, coming second, and did well on Floor with a fifth placing, lifting her overall score to tie for fifth.

Jacinta Frizelle put in a consistent effort on all apparatus, showing she had a knack for the Beam, placing fifth.

Four clubs participated in the event from as far away as Cairns and Malanda, with all of them exhibiting very high standards.

The club wishes to extend a special thanks to locals Alanna Ives, who was on the judging panel, and Bridget Osterman-Rowen, who assisted as support coach for the Level 3 girls.

Sign on Day for 2013 will take place on February 2 at the Mossman Indoor Sports Centre between 9am – 11am. For more information call Sonja on 0417 702 534 or email info@mossmangymnastics.com.
