Qantas now less than 20% market share

Qantas has seen its share of international traffic from Australia fall below 20% for just the second time ever.

Latest government figures showed the airline accounted for 19.8% of international traffic to and from Australia in November, down from 24.2% the year before. Qantas Group saw its share of traffic fall from 30.2% in November 2008 to 28.3%.

Singapore Airlines was second with 10.4% of traffic, down from 11.9%. Jetstar was in third spot, with its share of traffic growing from 6% to 8.5%.

It always worries me when I look at the continually deteriorating performance of Qantas because I feel I must be missing something, when the solution to their problems seems so blatantly obvious, well to me anyway...why not put more planes in the air !  If other airlines market share is growing and Qantas is falling surely if Qantas were carrying those passengers, as they once were, then their market share wouldn't be falling..or have I got something wrong ?
